Description
Silver medal commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Swiss Reinsurance Company Zurich, 1863–1938.
In 1861, the great fire in Glarus exposed the inadequacy of insurance coverage in Switzerland for large-scale catastrophes. In response, the Helvetia General Insurance Company in St. Gallen, former Credit Suisse in Zurich, and Basel Commercial Bank came together to found the Swiss Reinsurance Company in Zurich in 1863, with the goal of providing better protection against such devastating risks.
